Bakong Project

The Bakong project is the Design Center’s response to the local community of Sta. Teresita Cagayan, to find meaningful and sustainable ways to manage the bakong plant (Hanguana malayana) which has long been considered an aquatic nuisance.

Through collaborative research and co-designing with locals and industry partners, bakong was reimagined not as waste but as a promising raw material for textiles, paper, bioplastics, and other sustainable design applications.
