The core of design is to “make a mark with intention,” yet in today’s fast-paced, ever-growing world, we often forget what or who we are designing for. When we see the world as an archipelago–a cluster of cultures and peoples interconnected like a garden of flowers we begin to understand how design flows as the current that connects us all.  

Last year, inspired by our archipelago, we brought our islandness into deeper recognition, reminding us how vital it is to design with and for our diverse communities. This 2025, for the 14th edition of Design Week Philippines, we continue in the spirit of advancing and regenerating vernacular design by remembering ginhawa—well-being and care— and embedding it into our design practice.  

Beyond comfort and convenience, ginhawa is like a flower that nurtures itself from within before blooming for the greater whole– It is a call to nurture the inner self, which is connected to the community and environment. This theme encourages us to reflect on how design can truly foster holistic well-being, crafting solutions that resonate with the soul and contribute to a more fulfilling, meaningful, and lighter life for every Filipino.
